I just want to share what is so special about the country I grew up in. There may be more beautiful landscapes than the ones Lebanon, there may be a better economy than the one in Lebanon, there may a better education than the one in Lebanon, there may be better job opportunities than the ones in Lebanon but there is no people like the Lebanese people.

On the 4th of August 2020, Lebanon suffered a disaster on top of the economic crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic & the political instability & corruption. An explosion destroyed the entire capital Beirut killing at least 200 people and leaving thousands of people injured & homeless. The days following the explosion have been tough but in the darkest moments Lebanese citizens were able to find a light of hope. The days following the explosion, when I went to the streets, I felt goosebumps watching the solidarity between the people, hearing about stories that would mark my life forever. I am so proud of being Lebanese because when I see what Lebanese can achieve to help each other, I feel my heart complete. People are trying to help in every way possible picking up food, clothes & furniture, trying to fundraise money locally & internationally, helping build destroyed houses, raising awareness, spreading love & support. I am happy & sad at the same time because in these difficult times Lebanese are united & stronger as ever. However, I wish that we could show this solidarity in times of sickness & health. I wish that Lebanese would not wait a catastrophe to understand that they have the same blood. I wish that even when Lebanon is doing fine Lebanese would see each other as brothers & sisters regardless of their religion, social class & political background. I wish that Lebanese now understand what they are capable of when they are united & how they auto destroy themselves when they are divided. I wish that what happened will teach us that unified we are stronger, unified we can overcome any obstacle.
